Some are still unimproved but will be developed in the future. Parks have more rigid <a role=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/miottawa.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/Official-Park-Rules.pdf\">rules<\/a> and hunting is not allowed except by special permit.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\"><strong>Open Space Lands<\/strong> are more natural and less developed. Many lack formal trails; where trails exist, they are narrow, unpaved, and unsigned. Acknowledging that many residents enjoy having family photos taken on park property, the Parks Commission voted in 2018 to allow photographers to apply for a commercial photography\/videography permit and created a\u00a0<a role=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/miottawa.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/Commercial-Photography-Policy.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-smd-id=\"s272\">Commercial Photography Policy<\/a>. Hammocks are not allowed in off-trail areas, on manmade park structures, or in areas where the trail is either boardwalk or stairs.<\/li>\n<li>Hammockers should follow \u201cleave no trace\u201d principles and pack out everything that is packed in including trash and recyclables.\u200b<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Geocaching: <\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Geocaching is allowed at many Ottawa County Park properties following the\u00a0<a role=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/miottawa.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/Guidelines-Rules-for-Geocaching.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">guidelines and rules<\/a>. Geocaching is not permitted at Historic Ottawa Beach Parks, Marne Bog, Olive Shores, and Rosy Mound Natural Area.<\/li>\n<li><a class=\"pdf\" title=\"\" role=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/miottawa.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/Guidelines-Rules-for-Geocaching.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-smd-id=\"s283\">Guidelines &amp; Rules for Geocaching<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Metal Detecting: <\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The use of a metal detector is allowed on Lake Michigan beach areas at North Beach Park, the Rosy Mound Natural Area, Kirk Park, Tunnel Park, and Historic Ottawa Beach Park. Metal detecting is not allowed in any beach area that has vegetation. Metal detecting is also allowed at Ottawa Sands on the un-vegetated sandy area along the Grand River excluding the steep cut bank, along the gravel road and within 10 feet of the sandy trails or un-vegetated banks of the inland lake. Holes must be filled, and activity is allowed only during regular park hours.<\/li>\n<li>Special permission from parks staff must be obtained in advance for metal detecting in other park areas.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>[\/et_pb_toggle][et_pb_toggle title=&#8221;Horses&#8221; admin_label=&#8221;Horses&#8221; _builder_version=&#8221;4.27.4&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221;]<\/p>\n<p>Equestrian trails are available at <a href=\"https:\/\/miottawa.org\/park-locations\/pigeon-creek-park\/\" data-smd-id=\"s279\">Pigeon Creek Park<\/a> (3 miles), <a href=\"https:\/\/miottawa.org\/park-locations\/eastmanville-farm\/\" data-smd-id=\"s280\">Eastmanville Farm<\/a> (4.5 miles) and the <a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20250114210629\/http:\/\/www.musketawatrail.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Musketawa Trail<\/a>\u00a0(10 miles). Horses are allowed on designated trails at Pigeon Creek Park from March 15 through November 30, if weather and trail conditions permit. Because of cross country skiing at Pigeon Creek Park and snowmobiling on the Musketawa Trail, these trails are unavailable for horseback riding during the winter. The trails at Eastmanville Farm are clay-based and become slippery during heavy rainfall throughout the year. Trails at the farm will close under these conditions. No beach fires.<\/li>\n<li>Snowmobiles are allowed on the\u00a0<a title=\"\" role=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/miottawa.org\/park-locations\/musketawa-trail\/\" data-smd-id=\"s284\">Musketawa Trail<\/a>\u00a0when conditions are satisfactory. ORV\u2019s are not to be ridden within any other Ottawa County Parks property.<\/li>\n<li>Do not damage, remove, or deface park property \u2014 including buildings, signs, equipment, rocks, or plants such as trees, turf, dune grass, flowers, and shrubs.
