The Eco-Immersion Explorers Homeschool Program is hosted by the Nature Center at Hemlock Crossing County Park. Designed for homeschool students ages 9-12*, this hands-on, nature-based program seeks to develop an understanding of ecological principles and the interconnectedness of ecosystems while fostering an understanding of the role we play in the natural world. Come investigate the insects, amphibians, and fish that help our wetland ecosystems thrive.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n April 27, <\/strong>A Bird\u2019s Life –<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0Birds are singing. They\u2019re building nests. They\u2019re laying eggs and raising young. We\u2019ll observe bird activity in the park while learning about their life cycles<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n May 11, <\/strong>Native vs. Non-native –<\/em>\u00a0<\/span><\/strong>The\u00a0<\/span>natural world<\/span>\u00a0of our parks<\/span>\u00a0has been\u00a0<\/span>impacted<\/span>\u00a0by organisms that\u00a0<\/span>didn\u2019t<\/span>\u00a0originally\u00a0<\/span>live here.\u00a0<\/span>We\u2019ll<\/span>\u00a0explore what it means to be\u00a0<\/span>an introduced species and how that affects our native ecosystems<\/span>.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n May 18, <\/strong>Invasive Plants – <\/em><\/span><\/strong>Some introduced plant species become a problem to the ecosystems\u00a0<\/span>into which they have been introduced. Explorers will learn what it means to be an invasive species and work on a project to help remove\u00a0<\/span>an invasive plant from our park.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n June 1, Wetlands by Kayak –<\/em>\u00a0<\/span><\/strong>The<\/span>\u00a0Pigeon River at Hemlock Crossing offers our Explorers\u00a0<\/span>the opportunity\u00a0<\/span>to investigate\u00a0<\/span>wetland habitats up close.
