_builder_version=&#8221;4.27.4&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221; hover_enabled=&#8221;0&#8243; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221; theme_builder_area=&#8221;post_content&#8221; sticky_enabled=&#8221;0&#8243;]<\/p>\n<h2>General Requirements<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>State Law:<\/strong>\u00a0The State of Michigan through\u00a0MCL 551.101, 104, 106\u00a0requires all parties intending to be married to obtain a marriage license from the county clerk of the county in which either applicant resides.\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.legislature.mi.gov\/Laws\/MCL?objectName=MCL-551-101\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">MCL 551.101<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.legislature.mi.gov\/Laws\/MCL?objectName=mcl-551-104\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">MCL 551.104<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.legislature.mi.gov\/Laws\/MCL?objectName=mcl-551-106\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">MCL 551.106<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>In-State Residents:<\/strong>\u00a0must apply for license in the county in which they live. Paper copies of documentation are REQUIRED. Documents will not be accepted on mobile devices.<\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][et_pb_text admin_label=&#8221;Text&#8221; _builder_version=&#8221;4.27.4&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;77059ae3-2b34-45e7-9ccc-6f13cb671bbb&#8221; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221; theme_builder_area=&#8221;post_content&#8221;]<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Birth Certificates:<\/strong>\u00a0Each applicant must provide a certified birth certificate or a paper copy of a certified birth certificate, an official foreign birth certificate with an English translation, or a permanent resident alien card or naturalization certificate.\u00a0Note:\u00a0For foreign language birth certificates a certified translation is required.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Government Issued Pictured Identification:<\/strong> For both applicants such as a driver\u2019s license or state identification card. A passport can be used for pictured identification if an additional piece of documentation is included to show residency. Paper copies of these documents are acceptable.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Judgment of Divorce\u00a0or\u00a0Death Certificate:<\/strong> If previous marriage was terminated by divorce or death, a paper copy of one of these certified documents is required.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Social Security Cards:\u00a0<\/strong>For both applicants. If you are exempt from having a social security number due to other legal reasons (citizen of another country here with a passport, work or student visa or in the process of becoming a citizen of this country) or exempt because of religious convictions pursuant to MCL 551.102{sec. 2(3)}, you must provide applicable documentation and must sign an affidavit to that affect.
